Ten minutes is enough — if you know exactly where to look

Most people spend more time choosing a restaurant than researching a token before buying it. This imbalance has cost the Solana community hundreds of millions of dollars in avoidable losses. The good news is that the most important risk signals on any Solana token are publicly available and verifiable in under 10 minutes — no programming knowledge required, no paid data subscriptions needed. What's required is knowing the exact sequence of checks to run and what each result means. This guide provides that sequence as a repeatable workflow you can apply to any token, any time, before any purchase.

Step 1 — Automated risk score (2 minutes)

Go to Hannisol and paste the token's mint address into the search bar. The automated analysis covers all eight risk dimensions: Pump-Dump Risk, Exit Ability, Manipulation Score, Token Authenticity, Short and Long-Term Suitability, Holder Growth, and Volatility. Read the overall score first, then look at the individual dimensions. Any dimension scoring above 70 is a serious flag that deserves manual follow-up.

Also run the address through RugCheck.xyz. Note every specific warning — not just the overall rating.

Step 2 — Security permission check (2 minutes)

Open Solscan.io and search for the mint address. Under Token Info, confirm:

  • Mint Authority = None: If active, stop your evaluation here. Do not buy.
  • Freeze Authority = None: If active, treat as high risk unless a specific compliance reason is provided.
  • Update Authority: Note whether metadata is mutable — a mutable name/image signals low-commitment team.

If both authorities are revoked and the token passes this step, proceed.

Step 3 — Holder distribution check (2 minutes)

Still on Solscan, click the Holders tab. Identify the liquidity pool wallet (largest holder, associated with Raydium/Orca program). Exclude it. Calculate the percentage held by the next 10 largest wallets. Apply the risk table:

  • Under 30%: healthy distribution
  • 30–50%: elevated risk; check whether top wallets share a funding origin
  • Above 50%: high risk; coordinated selling would be catastrophic

Step 4 — Liquidity assessment (2 minutes)

Find the token's primary trading pair on Raydium or via Jupiter. Look at the pool's total liquidity in USD. Apply your intended trade size against this number:

  • Your trade should be less than 1% of pool depth for minimal slippage (<1%)
  • If your trade exceeds 5% of pool depth, execution risk is severe
  • Pools under $10,000 are unsuitable for any position larger than a few hundred dollars

Step 5 — Domain and team check (2 minutes)

Visit the project's website. Then check the domain age using Hannisol's WHOIS/domain intelligence section, or manually via any RDAP tool. A domain registered in the last two weeks combined with aggressive promotion is a strong red flag pattern. Also check: does the team have any verifiable online presence beyond the project itself? GitHub repositories, LinkedIn profiles, prior project history?

The 10-minute scorecard

CheckPass conditionTime
Hannisol + RugCheck automated scoreNo dimension above 70; no high-severity warnings2 min
Mint authority + freeze authorityBoth = None2 min
Holder concentration (ex-LP)Top 10 below 40%2 min
Liquidity depth vs. trade sizeTrade < 1% of pool depth2 min
Domain age + team presenceDomain > 30 days; some verifiable team presence2 min

If a token fails 2 or more of these checks, the risk profile does not support a standard position. Reduce size significantly or avoid entirely. Start your evaluation at Hannisol.
